The Indexes section contains the following:

  • Yellow Belly Index (YBI) - This is an index of Lincolnshire people. Unlike the people in the parish records, census or strays this list contains references to people who appear in any record related to Lincolnshire and they have been sourced from un-indexed records in the MOA, newspapers, books, articles in other society publications, etc.. You may search the YBI without being a member, but to view further information (in particular the source so you can view the original document) you need to be a member and registered for access to the MOA.
  • Strays Index - Strays are people born in Lincolnshire but found in records outside of Lincolnshire. As the sources are often from documents that may not have been published online or may require payment to access, this provides a useful finding aid for your ancestors that have "strayed" away from Lincolnshire.
  • Newspaper Extracts - Newspapers often provide "flesh on the bones" information that may often only be alluded to in official records. Included are a large number of the newspaper extracts published in the Journal but also transcriptions of articles direct from original newspaper resources.
  • Wills Beneficiary Index (WBI) - This is an index of Lincolnshire people who appear in other people's wills. They could be a daughter, a grandchild, an executor, or someone who happens to live in a house owned by the testator. Most of the beneficiaries will have surnames that are different from that of the person who made the will (the testator) and so will not usually appear in an index or calendar of wills. The date coverage of the index is from the 1500s to 1900.
  • Donated Family Histories - We have an extensive collection of Family Histories in the Resource Centre, that have been generously donated by our members over the years. These invaluable records can offer key insights and help guide your research journey. A surname index has been created of all available documents. At the moment if you wish to access one of the Donated Family Histories, they are only available in the Resource Centre. Scanned copies of some of the documents will be made available to download from the website in future.
